Our take on the Sony Bravia K98XR50 98-Inch Mini LED 4K HDR TV with Austere VII Series 2.5m 8K HDMI Cable

The Sony Bravia K98XR50 is a 98-inch 4K LCD TV using Mini LED backlighting, with a 120 Hz panel and four HDMI ports. It is a very large screen aimed at big rooms and home theater setups, and it runs Sony's Google TV smart platform with Netflix and other streaming apps. The best new price is $3,324.99 at Walmart as of November 8, 2026, with two stores listing it new. That is a low price for a 98-inch Mini LED set, so it is worth checking against the recent range before buying.

Best forLarge living rooms and media roomsHome theater and movie nightsSports and console gaming at 120 HzBuyers who want the biggest screen per dollar
Pros
  • 98-inch screen gives a true theater-scale image
  • Mini LED backlight delivers strong brightness and contrast for an LCD
  • 120 Hz panel suits sports and current consoles
  • Four HDMI ports cover a console, soundbar and streaming box
  • Sony's processing and Google TV platform are well regarded
Cons
  • Very large and heavy; needs a wide wall or stand and often two people to install
  • LCD panel means some blooming around bright objects on dark scenes
  • Viewing angles are narrower than OLED
  • Built-in speakers are modest for a screen this size; a soundbar or AV receiver is likely
  • The bundled Austere 8K HDMI cable adds little for a 4K TV

Questions and answers

Is the Sony K98XR50 worth it at $3,324.99?
At $3,324.99 at Walmart as of November 8, 2026, it is a low price for a 98-inch Mini LED TV. It makes sense if you have the wall space and want maximum size; a smaller OLED will beat it on contrast and viewing angles.
How does Mini LED compare with OLED on this TV?
Mini LED gives higher brightness and no risk of burn-in, which suits bright rooms and sports. OLED gives deeper blacks and wider viewing angles, but 98-inch OLEDs cost far more.
Does it support 4K 120 Hz for consoles?
Yes. The panel is 120 Hz and there are four HDMI ports, so a PS5 or Xbox Series X can run at 4K 120 Hz on a compatible input.
What is in the box?
The TV, its stand and remote are included, along with the Austere VII Series 2.5m 8K HDMI cable in this bundle. A wall mount is not included.
How big a room does a 98-inch TV need?
Plan for a viewing distance of roughly 9 to 13 feet for mixed use. The set is also heavy and wide, so measure the wall or stand and check doorways before delivery.
When is it cheapest?
Large TVs usually drop around Black Friday and during the Super Bowl window. Check the price history before buying; the current $3,324.99 at Walmart is already near the low end.
Where is the Sony Bravia K98XR50 98-Inch Mini LED 4K HDR TV with Austere VII Series 2.5m 8K HDMI Cable cheapest?
