Is the PS4 Slim 1TB worth buying in 2026?

Only at a low price. A PS5 plays most PS4 games and adds 4K, so $198.99 for a last-gen console is hard to justify unless you want a cheap second system or a Blu-ray player.

How is the Slim different from the original PS4?

It is smaller and lighter, uses less power and runs quieter. It drops the optical audio port and has no performance advantage over the original.

Does the PS4 Slim play 4K games or 4K Blu-rays?

No. Games and video output top out at 1080p, and the Blu-ray drive does not support 4K discs.

The console with a 1TB drive, one DualShock 4 controller, an HDMI cable, a power cable and a mono headset.

Can it play PS5 games?

No. It plays PS4 discs and downloads only. Most PS4 games do run on a PS5, but not the reverse.

When is the best time to buy one?

Holiday sales and clearance events are when new stock drops lowest. At $198.99 as of November 4, 2026, this listing is above the console's typical recent range.

Our take on the Sony PlayStation 4 Slim 1TB Console

The PS4 Slim is Sony's smaller, quieter revision of the original PlayStation 4, sold here in the 1TB configuration. It plays the full PS4 library, doubles as a Blu-ray player, and supports motion control and Bluetooth. The best new price is $198.99 at Walmart as of November 4, 2026, and it is the only new listing tracked. That price sits well above the $150-$200 range the 1TB Slim has sold for in recent years, so it is not a bargain.
