Is the Platinum 6 worth it over the Platinum Scout?

The Platinum 6 has a wider 6-inch platform than the Scout, so it handles more die sizes. If you mostly cut small dies, the Scout is cheaper; if you want room for larger ones, the Platinum 6 is the better fit.

What dies can it cut?

It is built for thin metal dies such as Spellbinders' own etched and steel-rule dies, and it also lists fabric and metal as compatible materials. Very thick or oversized dies may not fit the 6-inch opening.

What comes in the box?

The machine ships with its plate stack for cutting and embossing. Check the listing for the exact plate count, since bundles vary, and buy any extra plates you need for the dies you own.

Does it need electricity?

No. It is fully manual and runs by turning the side handle, so it works anywhere. The trade-off is that large batches take more time than with a motorized machine.

Only one store listed it new at $139.99 as of November 3, 2026, so there is no competing price to compare. Craft-store sales and coupon events are the usual times this machine drops.

Our take on the Spellbinders Platinum 6

The Spellbinders Platinum 6 is a manual die-cutting and embossing machine for paper crafts, card making and scrapbooking. It is a compact 6-inch platform machine that runs steel-rule and thin metal dies through a stack of plates by turning a side handle, so it needs no power outlet. It sits in the middle of Spellbinders' line, above the smaller Platinum Scout and below the Platinum 8.5. The best new price is $139.99 at Scrapbook.com as of November 3, 2026, and only one store lists it new, so there is little price competition to shop around.
