Is this set worth $1,179?

Only if you carve often and will use most of the 30 profiles. At $1,179 at Wood carving tools STRYI as of November 7, 2026, it costs less than buying the same forged tools singly, but a smaller set covers most hobby work.

Do the tools come sharp and ready to use?

Stryi tools typically arrive with a working edge but benefit from a honing before first use. Plan on a strop and sharpening stones as part of the kit.

Will the carbon steel rust?

Yes, if left damp. Dry each tool after use and apply a light oil; store them in a dry roll rather than a closed damp box.

Is a 30-piece set too much for a beginner?

For most beginners, yes. Start with 6 to 10 common gouges and add profiles as your work demands them.

The set is listed as 30 carving tools. Confirm with the seller whether a roll or sharpening accessories are included, since listings vary.

Two stores price it new, so compare both before buying. Wood carving specialty shops rarely discount Stryi sets deeply, and seasonal sales are the usual window.
