Our take on the Sunny Designs Doe Valley Swivel Barstool

The Sunny Designs Doe Valley is a counter-to-bar-height swivel stool with a 30-inch seat, built from wood and metal in a brown finish. The swivel seat and mixed-material frame give it a rustic-industrial look that suits kitchen islands and home bars. It is sold in pairs, so the listed price covers two stools. At $186 at JR Furniture USA as of November 3, 2026, the pair sits at the low end of its recent range across the three stores that carry it.

Pros
  • 30-inch seat height fits standard bar-height counters
  • Swivel seat makes sitting down and standing up easier
  • Wood and metal mix reads sturdier than all-wood budget stools
  • Sold as a pair, so one order covers both sides of an island
  • Brown finish blends with most wood tones
Cons
  • At 30 inches it is too tall for standard 36-inch kitchen counters
  • Swivel mechanism and footrest are the usual wear points on this style
  • No upholstery, so the seat is hard for long sitting
  • Pair-only sale means no single-stool option
  • Assembly and periodic tightening of bolts are expected

Questions and answers

Will these fit my kitchen island?
Only if the counter is about 40 to 42 inches high. A 30-inch seat is bar height, not counter height, so it is too tall for a standard 36-inch counter.
Is the price for one stool or two?
The listing is for two pieces, so $186 at JR Furniture USA as of November 3, 2026 buys the pair. That works out to about $93 per stool.
Is $186 a good price?
It is the lowest of the three stores that carry it and sits at the low end of its recent range. Waiting is unlikely to save much unless a store runs a furniture sale.
Do the stools swivel a full 360 degrees?
Yes, the seat swivels, which is the main reason to pick this model over a fixed stool. Check the swivel plate screws after assembly and tighten them if the seat wobbles.
What do I need to assemble them?
Expect to attach the legs, footrest and swivel plate with the included hardware. A screwdriver and a few minutes per stool are usually enough, and re-tightening after the first weeks of use is normal.
Where is the Sunny Designs Doe Valley Swivel Barstool cheapest?
