Is the SwissGear 1900 Scansmart worth it?

For a durable, checkpoint-friendly bag at a mid-range price, yes. It suits travelers and commuters more than minimalists, since it is heavy and bulky for everyday light carry.

Will a 17-inch laptop fit?

The laptop compartment is 14.25 x 11.5 x 1.5 inches, so measure your machine. Many 17-inch laptops fit, but thick gaming models may not.

How is it different from the SwissGear 1900 ScanSmart original?

This is the same 1900 ScanSmart line: lay-flat laptop section, 1200D polyester and five compartments. Check the model number 19002415 against the listing to confirm the exact version and color.

Does it fit under an airplane seat?

At 18.5 x 13.25 x 9 inches it generally fits under most seats, though it may be tight on smaller regional aircraft.

The backpack only. No laptop, tablet, lock or rain cover is included.

Back-to-school season and Black Friday tend to bring the lowest prices. Outside those windows the price stays fairly steady.

Our take on the SwissGear 1900 Scansmart Mini/Slim Laptop Backpack

The SwissGear 1900 Scansmart is a checkpoint-friendly laptop backpack with a lay-flat ScanSmart compartment that lets you leave a laptop up to 17 inches inside at airport security. It is built from 1200D polyester, weighs 3.3 lbs and holds 31 liters across five compartments, with a padded tablet sleeve sized 10 x 7 inches. The laptop bay itself measures 14.25 x 11.5 x 1.5 inches, so check your machine against that before buying. It is a long-running, widely sold model rather than a new release, and its price tends to sit in the same modest band for most of the year.
