Our take on the TCL 98" Class RM9L Series 4K RGB Mini LED Smart TV with S Class 5.1 Channel Soundbar System

A 98-inch 4K TV from TCL's RM9L series using RGB Mini LED backlighting, bundled with an S Class 5.1-channel soundbar system. The huge screen and Mini LED dimming suit a dedicated media room where a projector would otherwise go. It is a niche, very large set, so pricing and availability are limited compared with mainstream 65- to 85-inch models.

Pros
  • 98-inch screen gives a genuinely cinematic image
  • RGB Mini LED backlight with local dimming for strong contrast
  • 4K resolution with HDR support
  • 5.1-channel soundbar system included in the bundle
  • Bluetooth, HDMI and USB connectivity
Cons
  • Very large and heavy; needs a wide wall and often professional installation
  • 1.4-inch depth means it still needs a sturdy mount or stand
  • Few ratings so far, so long-term reliability is unproven
  • Bundled soundbar adds bulk and cabling versus a single unit
  • Limited price competition at this size

Questions and answers

Is a 98-inch TV too big for my room?
You want roughly 10 to 13 feet of viewing distance for a comfortable 98-inch picture. Measure the wall and the path into the room first; doorways and stairs are the usual blockers.
Do I need a professional to install it?
For most buyers, yes. A 98-inch panel is heavy and awkward, and wall mounting needs a mount rated for its weight and a stud-backed install.
Is the soundbar worth having in the bundle?
A 5.1-channel system will beat the TV's built-in speakers clearly. If you already own a receiver and speakers, the bundle adds less value.
How does RGB Mini LED compare with regular LED?
RGB Mini LED uses many small colored LEDs with local dimming, which usually means deeper blacks and less blooming around bright objects than standard edge-lit LED.
When is the best time to buy?
Large-screen TVs typically see the deepest discounts around Black Friday and before new model years launch in spring. Watch the price history rather than a single listing.
What do buyers say about the TCL 98" Class RM9L Series 4K RGB Mini LED Smart TV with S Class 5.1 Channel Soundbar System?
Rated 4.3 out of 5 from 6 ratings.
