Is the TCL C8K worth it over a cheaper LED TV?

Yes if you watch HDR content or game. The Mini-LED backlight and 144Hz panel are a clear step up from edge-lit LEDs, and the price gap is usually smaller than moving to OLED.

It is a 4K set: the panel is 3840 x 2160. One spec line lists 7680 x 4320, which does not match the 4K QD Mini-LED description, so confirm the resolution on the listing before you buy.

How many HDMI 2.1 ports does it have?

Two, alongside two HDMI 2.0 ports. That is enough for one console and a PC at 4K 120Hz, but a second console or a 144Hz PC plus a soundbar will need careful planning.

Does it support Dolby Vision and HDR10+?

Yes. It handles Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10, HDR10+ Adaptive and HLG, so it covers the HDR formats used by Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video and YouTube.

What sizes does it come in?

65, 75, 85 and 98 inches. The 98-inch model is the rare option here, since few OLEDs go beyond 83 inches.

When is the best time to buy it?

Large TCL sets see the deepest cuts around Black Friday, Super Bowl season and when a new model year replaces it. Check the price history before buying outside those windows.

Our take on the TCL C8K

The TCL C8K is a 4K QD Mini-LED TV sold in 65, 75, 85 and 98-inch sizes, running Google TV with Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+ Adaptive and a 144Hz panel with FreeSync and ALLM for gaming. It has two HDMI 2.1 ports plus two HDMI 2.0, Wi-Fi 6 and Ethernet. Mini-LED backlighting with quantum dots gives it high brightness and strong local dimming for the price, which is the main reason to consider it over standard LED sets.
