Our take on the Thames & Kosmos Gecko Run: Marble Run Starter Set

Gecko Run is a marble run that sticks to walls and windows instead of standing on a base. The 63-piece starter set uses reusable nano-adhesive pads and flexible tracks, so kids rearrange the path and watch gravity do the rest. It is aimed at ages 8 and up and teaches basic physics and engineering through trial and error. At $26.99 at Christianbook.com as of November 3, 2026, it sits at the low end of its recent range, with 5 stores selling it new.

Best forKids 8 and up who like building and tinkeringParents looking for a screen-free STEM giftClassroom or homeschool physics lessonsSmall spaces, since it mounts on walls and windows
Pros
  • Sticks to vertical surfaces, so it uses wall space instead of floor space
  • Reusable nano-adhesive pads let kids rebuild without damage
  • Flexible tracks and 63 pieces allow open-ended designs
  • Teaches gravity, momentum and problem-solving hands-on
  • No batteries needed
Cons
  • Pads lose grip as dust builds up and need washing
  • Tracks are small, so the run is short compared with floor marble runs
  • Assembly and setup take adult help the first time
  • Only one player at a time in the starter set

Questions and answers

Is the Gecko Run starter set worth it?
It is a good pick if you want a marble run that does not take up floor space and can be rebuilt. At $26.99 at Christianbook.com as of November 3, 2026, it is a low-cost way to try the system before buying expansion packs.
How is Gecko Run different from a regular marble run?
Gecko Run sticks to walls, windows and other smooth surfaces with nano-adhesive pads, so the track runs vertically. Standard marble runs sit on a base and rely on gravity down a fixed frame.
What age is Gecko Run for?
Thames & Kosmos lists it for ages 8 and up. Younger kids can help place pieces but will need an adult for the first setup.
Do the adhesive pads leave marks or damage paint?
The nano-adhesive pads are designed to peel off smooth surfaces without residue. On painted walls or wallpaper, test a pad in a hidden spot first.
What is in the box?
The 63-piece set includes flexible tracks, connectors, marbles and nano-adhesive pads. Batteries are not required.
