Does it need a SIM card or subscription?

It is a PoC radio, so it needs cellular data to talk. Expect to supply a SIM and a data plan; check the listing for whether one is included.

Is it really license-free?

Yes. It talks over 4G LTE rather than licensed radio frequencies, so no radio license is required.

How far does it reach?

As far as cellular coverage goes, which the maker describes as nationwide and up to 5000 miles. Two units in areas without signal will not connect.

How long does the battery last?

The 2000 mAh battery is rated for 4 days of standby. Talk time will be much shorter, so plan to charge daily with heavy use.

Can I use it for private calls?

Yes. It supports one-on-one private talking as well as group channels, with up to 200 groups.

It carries an IP67 rating, meaning it survives dust and brief water immersion. It is not rated for deep or prolonged submersion.
