Our take on the TYM T224 4WD HST Tractor with Loader and 54" Mower

The TYM T224 is a compact 4WD tractor sold with a front-end loader and a 54-inch mid-mount rotary mower. It pairs a hydrostatic transmission with a diesel engine, so it handles mowing, grading and loader work from one machine. It suits acreage owners who want one tool for lawn care and property chores. Pricing varies widely by dealer and package, so compare the loader and mower bundle against bare-tractor quotes.

Best forOwners of several acres with mixed lawn and gravel or dirt workBuyers who want one machine for mowing and loader choresHobby farmers and smallholders needing a compact 4WD tractorAnyone replacing a lawn tractor that keeps getting stuck
Pros
  • Hydrostatic transmission makes loader work and tight mowing easier than gear drive
  • 4WD improves traction on slopes, mud and loose gravel
  • Loader and 54-inch mower come as a package, so one purchase covers two jobs
  • Compact frame fits through gates and between trees
  • Diesel engine gives torque for ground-engaging and loader tasks
Cons
  • Loader and mower bundle costs far more than a garden tractor
  • 54-inch deck is wide for tight landscaping and narrow gates
  • Loader work on a compact tractor needs ballast and careful counterweighting
  • Dealer network and parts availability are thinner than major brands
  • Diesel maintenance and service costs exceed a gas lawn tractor

Questions and answers

Is the TYM T224 worth it over a garden tractor?
If you need loader work, 4WD traction or ground engagement, yes. For mowing only, a garden tractor costs much less and cuts as well.
Can the loader and mower stay on at the same time?
The loader and mid-mount mower are separate attachments. Many owners remove the loader for mowing to reduce weight and improve visibility.
What is the cutting width?
The included deck cuts 54 inches. That is wide enough for open lawn but tight around beds and narrow gates.
Does it have a hydrostatic transmission?
Yes. The HST pedal control makes direction changes and slow loader work smoother than a gear transmission.
What should I check before buying used?
Check loader pins and hydraulics for leaks, deck spindles and belts, and hours on the meter. Confirm the mower and loader are included in the price.
When is it cheapest?
Compact tractor pricing is set by dealers and often moves with seasonal promotions and financing offers. Compare bundle quotes from several dealers rather than a single listing.
