Our take on the Unlock! Epic Adventures

Unlock! Epic Adventures is a cooperative escape-room card game in the Unlock! line, sold as a box of three standalone adventures for 1 to 6 players. Each scenario runs about 90 minutes and is played through an app that handles the timer, hints and codes. The box released in July 2020 and is aimed at adults. At $36.99 at Kohl's as of November 5, 2026, it sits at the top of its recent range, so it is not a bargain price right now.

Questions and answers

Is Unlock! Epic Adventures worth it?
If you play escape-room games with a group, three 90-minute adventures for $36.99 is reasonable value. If you only play solo or rarely host game nights, one box may last you a long time.
How many players can play?
The box supports 1 to 6 players. It works best with 2 to 4, since more players mean more people crowded around the same cards.
Do I need an app to play?
Yes. Unlock! uses a free app for the timer, hints and code entry. You need a charged phone or tablet at the table.
Can you replay the adventures?
Not really. Once you know the solutions, the puzzles lose their challenge, so treat each scenario as a one-time experience.
How long does each adventure take?
About 90 minutes per scenario on average. The app's timer penalizes slow play, so plan a full evening per adventure.
When is it cheapest?
Unlock! boxes usually drop during board game sales and holiday promotions. At $36.99 across 6 stores as of November 5, 2026, it is near its recent high, so waiting for a sale is reasonable.
