Is this valve worth it over a name-brand push-fit valve?
If you need a cheap shutoff on a low-pressure water line, it does the job. Name-brand push-fit valves cost more but carry published pressure and temperature ratings and are easier to find replacement parts for.
Can I use it on steam?
It carries a 200 psi steam rating, but the plastic seat is the weak point. Keep it to light, low-temperature steam and check the seat after service.
Does it fit both 3/8 and 1/2 inch pipe?
No. The two ends are different sizes: one push-fit end takes 3/8 inch pipe and the other takes 1/2 inch pipe. It is a reducing valve, not a valve that fits either size.
What is in the box?
The valve with its lever handle. Push-fit fittings generally do not include pipe stiffeners or release tools, so have those on hand for PEX.
How do I install it without leaks?
Cut the pipe square, deburr it, and mark the insertion depth. Push the pipe fully into the fitting and pull back gently to seat the grab ring. Test under pressure before closing up the wall.
