Is the DS2i worth it over a cheaper bedside safe?

You pay for fast biometric access, app control and the charger and clock built into the lid. If you only need keypad access and a box, a basic safe costs far less.

Will it fit a full-size pistol with a weapon light?

Usually not. The interior is 9 x 7.5 x 1.5 inches, so a light or red dot often pushes the lid past closing. Measure your setup before buying.

How does it open if the battery dies?

It ships with two backup keys and a Vaultek Nano Key, so you can open it without power. The keypad and biometric reader need the internal battery charged.

Yes. It is mountable and includes a heavy-duty steel security cable, so you can secure it to a bed frame or nightstand without drilling.

Our take on the Vaultek DS2i Smart Station

The Vaultek DS2i Smart Station is a steel nightstand safe for one full-size pistol, with a biometric fingerprint reader, a 4-digit keypad, Bluetooth app control and backup keys. It doubles as a bedside hub: a wireless phone charger, USB ports and an LED clock sit on top. The interior is small at 9 x 7.5 x 1.5 inches, so it fits a pistol and little else. At $329.98 at Presleys Outdoors as of November 4, 2026, it sits near the top of its recent price range, and only 3 stores list it new.
