Our take on the Vent Foundation Cover

This is a mill-finish aluminum foundation vent cover, 16 in. by 8 in., that installs by nailing to floor joists or replacing a foundation block. It is built to keep debris and animals out of the crawlspace while still letting the space ventilate, and the aluminum resists corrosion outdoors. The best new price is $11.99 at Spence Hardware & Supply as of November 4, 2026, with two stores listing it new.

Best forHomeowners sealing crawlspace vents against animalsOlder homes with missing or rusted foundation ventsDIY foundation and block-replacement jobsCoastal or damp climates where corrosion matters
Pros
  • Aluminum construction resists corrosion
  • Fits a standard 16 in. by 8 in. foundation opening
  • Can be nailed to joists or used as a block replacement
  • Springs included for a secure fit
  • Low price at $11.99
Cons
  • Mill finish is unfinished and may need painting to match
  • Only one size, so odd openings won't fit
  • Nailing or block replacement takes more effort than a snap-in cover
  • No screen or mesh specified for fine insect control

Questions and answers

Is this cover worth it?
At $11.99 at Spence Hardware & Supply as of November 4, 2026, it is a cheap fix for an open or damaged foundation vent. Aluminum should outlast steel covers that rust.
Will it fit my foundation vent opening?
It is sized for a 16 in. by 8 in. opening. Measure your vent before buying, since it is not adjustable.
Can I install it myself?
Yes, if you can nail into floor joists or swap a foundation block. Block replacement is the harder of the two methods.
Does it block airflow completely?
No. It is a vent cover meant to keep out debris and animals while the crawlspace still ventilates.
Does it come with hardware?
Springs are included. Nails or fasteners for joist mounting are not listed, so plan to supply your own.
