Questions and answers

Is the Wakeman Strike Series combo worth it for a beginner?
Yes, if you want a low-cost setup for ponds and small lakes. At $29.99 at eBay as of November 4, 2026, it costs less than most rods alone, but expect budget reel performance.
Can I switch the reel to left-hand retrieve?
Yes. The reel is set up for right-hand retrieve and can be switched to left-hand retrieve.
What line should I put on it?
It is rated for 6 lb monofilament and holds up to 250 yards. Heavier line will overload the rod and reduce casting distance.
What fish can it handle?
It is aimed at bass and catfish in freshwater. The medium power and 6 lb line rating suit small to medium fish, not big catfish or heavy cover.
Is it good for saltwater?
No. It is built for freshwater, and the aluminum body and steel eyelets are not rated for saltwater corrosion.
When is it cheapest?
The best new price seen is $29.99 at eBay as of November 4, 2026. Combos like this often drop around spring fishing sales and holiday promotions.
