Our take on the Wanscam Wireless HD 1080P WiFi Solar & Battery Power Bullet IP Camera

The Wanscam Wireless HD 1080P WiFi Solar & Battery Power Bullet IP Camera is an outdoor security camera that runs on a built-in battery charged by a small solar panel, so it needs no wiring. It streams 1080p video over 2.4GHz WiFi, records audio through a built-in mic, and triggers recording on motion. It suits a renter or homeowner who wants a camera on a fence, shed or gate without an electrician. Wanscam is a budget brand, so expect basic app features and no subscription-free cloud storage beyond a microSD card.

Buyers on a tight budget
Pros
  • Solar panel plus battery means no wiring and no outlet needed
  • 1080p video with audio is enough to identify people and hear conversations
  • Motion detection with app push alerts
  • Wireless WiFi setup avoids running cable
  • Bullet housing is simple to mount on a wall or post
Cons
  • 2.4GHz WiFi only, which limits range and can be crowded
  • Budget-brand app and firmware get few updates
  • No confirmed subscription cloud plan; local microSD is the practical option
  • Solar charging depends on direct sun, so shaded spots may need manual recharging
  • 1080p only, with no color night vision or spotlight listed

Questions and answers

Is the Wanscam solar camera worth it?
It is a reasonable pick if you need a wire-free camera at a low price and can mount it in direct sun. If you want polished software, reliable cloud storage or sharp night video, spend more on a name brand.
Does it work without the solar panel?
Yes. The battery can be charged by USB and the camera runs on battery alone. The solar panel just tops it up, so a shaded mount means occasional manual charging.
What WiFi does it need?
It connects over 2.4GHz WiFi only. It will not join a 5GHz-only network, so check your router band before buying.
Where does it store recordings?
It records to a microSD card inside the camera, which you supply. There is no confirmed free cloud plan, so plan on a card for playback.
What's in the box?
Expect the camera, the solar panel, a mounting bracket and screws, and a charging cable. A microSD card is usually not included.
When is it cheapest?
Budget cameras like this tend to dip during Black Friday and Prime Day sales. Check the price history on this page before buying.
