Our take on the WholeHearted Grain Free All Life Stages Chicken & Pea Recipe Dry Dog Food

WholeHearted Grain Free All Life Stages Chicken & Pea Recipe is a chicken-first dry dog food sold in a 40 lb bag, positioned for digestive health and all ages. It is a store-brand formula, so it competes on price rather than on premium ingredients. The best new price is $67.99 at Petco.com as of November 7, 2026, and only one store lists it new, so there is no cheaper alternative to compare against. At about $1.70 per pound, it is priced like an economy kibble.

Cons
  • Rated 2.9 out of 5 from about 4,700 ratings, a weak record for a widely sold food
  • Store-brand formula with limited published nutrient detail beyond the label
  • Grain-free is not automatically better for dogs without a grain allergy
  • Only one store lists it new, so there is little price competition
  • Large bag must be stored well to stay fresh

Questions and answers

Is this food good for dogs with sensitive stomachs?
Reviews are mixed and lean negative: some owners report digestive upset after switching. Introduce it gradually over a week or more, and stop if vomiting or diarrhea persists.
How much does the 40 lb bag cost?
$67.99 at Petco.com as of November 7, 2026, about $1.70 per pound. Only one store lists it new, so watch that price rather than expecting a cheaper rival listing.
Is it really grain-free?
Yes, the label lists it as grain-free with chicken and pea. Grain-free only matters for dogs with a diagnosed grain allergy; it is not a general upgrade.
What life stages is it for?
It is labeled all life stages, so it can feed puppies through seniors. Large-breed puppies and dogs with health conditions should have the formula cleared by a vet.
How should I store a 40 lb bag?
Keep it in the original bag inside an airtight container in a cool, dry place, and use it within about six weeks of opening. Buy the big bag only if you will finish it in that time.
Why is the rating so low?
The 2.9 out of 5 comes mostly from dogs refusing the food and from reports of stomach upset. If your dog already eats a food well, switching for price alone carries risk.
Where is the WholeHearted Grain Free All Life Stages Chicken & Pea Recipe Dry Dog Food cheapest?
At Petco.com, for $67.99, as of our latest check.
What do buyers say about the WholeHearted Grain Free All Life Stages Chicken & Pea Recipe Dry Dog Food?
Rated 2.9 out of 5 from 4,700 ratings.
Where can I buy the WholeHearted Grain Free All Life Stages Chicken & Pea Recipe Dry Dog Food?
3 stores we checked sell it, including Petco.com, eBay, Uber Eats.
