Questions and answers

Is the Winix 5520 worth it at $163?
At $163 at eBay as of November 6, 2026, it is a strong value for a True HEPA purifier with roughly 460–480 CADR. That price is at the low end of its recent range.
What size room does it cover?
Winix rates it for 627 sq ft in 20 minutes. For continuous cleaning in a bedroom or office, a smaller room means faster air turnover.
Does it produce ozone?
Winix lists it as ozone free. PlasmaWave is an ionizer, though, and some shoppers prefer to switch that feature off; the HEPA filtration works without it.
How often do filters need replacing?
Winix typically recommends a new True HEPA filter about once a year and washing the odor filter every few weeks. Filter cost is the main long-term expense.
Can I control it with my phone?
Yes. It connects to the Winix Smart app and works with Alexa for speed, mode and timer changes. There is no physical remote in the box.
How loud is it?
The minimum is 27 dB, quiet enough for a bedroom. Higher speeds are noticeably louder, as with any purifier of this airflow.
