Our take on the Women's The North Face Summit Superior FUTURELIGHT Jacket

The North Face Summit Superior FUTURELIGHT is a women's running rain jacket built for training in wet, windy weather. It uses a FUTURELIGHT waterproof-breathable membrane with sealed seams, a two-way zipper and a hood, in a lightweight relaxed cut. It suits spring and fall running more than cold-weather layering.

Questions and answers

Is this jacket actually waterproof?
Yes. It uses a FUTURELIGHT waterproof membrane with sealed seams, so it is built for rain rather than drizzle only.
Can I run in it without overheating?
It is lightweight and the two-way zipper lets you vent, but it is a shell, so hard efforts in mild weather can still feel warm.
How does the fit run?
It is a relaxed fit, so it leaves room for a base layer. Runners who want a close race fit may want to size down.
Is it warm enough for winter?
No. It has no insulation and is aimed at spring and fall. In cold weather you would layer a fleece or thermal underneath.
How should I care for it?
It is machine washable. Use a technical wash and avoid fabric softener to keep the waterproof membrane working.
When is it cheapest?
Rain shells usually drop at end of season and around major sale events. Check the price history before buying at full price.
