Our take on the X98 S500 Android 11 TV Stick Media Player

The X98 S500 is a small Android 11 media player built on the Amlogic S905Y4 quad-core chip with a Mali-G31 MP2 GPU, 2GB of DDR3 RAM and 8 to 32GB of eMMC storage. It streams up to 4K with HDR10+ support over dual-band 2.4G/5G Wi-Fi, and adds Bluetooth 4.x plus a microSD slot. It is a budget generic box, not a certified Google or Netflix device, so expect sideloaded apps and manual updates. No current price was provided for this listing, so check the live comparison before buying.

Questions and answers

Is the X98 S500 worth it?
For basic 4K playback and sideloaded apps at a low price, yes. If you want certified Netflix, Disney+ or regular updates, a Google-certified device is the safer buy.
Does it support Netflix in 4K?
Almost certainly not. Generic Android boxes usually lack Widevine L1 certification, so Netflix is limited to SD quality or will not install from the Play Store.
How much RAM and storage does it have?
It ships with 2GB DDR3 RAM and 8, 16 or 32GB eMMC storage depending on the variant. A microSD card adds more space for local media.
Can I connect it with an Ethernet cable?
Yes, it has a 10/100Mbps Ethernet port, but that caps wired speed at about 100Mbps. Dual-band Wi-Fi is often faster if your router is close.
What is in the box?
Typically the TV stick, a 5V/2A power adapter, an HDMI extension cable and a remote. Confirm the bundle with the seller, since generic boxes vary.
When is it cheapest?
Prices on generic Android boxes swing with sales events and coupon codes. Compare across stores and check the price history before buying.
