Our take on the XGIMI HORIZON 20 Pro 4K Smart Home Projector

The XGIMI HORIZON 20 Pro is a 4K smart home projector built around an RGB triple-laser light engine rated at 4,100 ISO lumens and a 20,000:1 contrast ratio. It runs Google TV with hands-free Google Assistant, and its MT9679 chipset with 4GB RAM keeps menus and app launches quick. Setup is unusually forgiving for a projector: optical zoom plus V±120% / H±45% lens shift, along with ISA 5.0 auto focus, keystone, obstacle avoidance and screen alignment. It is a premium-priced model, so check the current best price against its recent range before buying.

Questions and answers

Is the HORIZON 20 Pro bright enough for a lit room?
At 4,100 ISO lumens it handles a room with some ambient light, though a dark room still gives the best contrast. A light-rejecting screen helps in daytime viewing.
How is it for gaming?
It supports 1ms input lag at 1080p/240Hz plus VRR and ALLM, which suits fast console and PC games. At 4K the frame rate drops, so competitive players may prefer 1080p mode.
Do I need to mount it perfectly straight?
No. Optical zoom and V±120% / H±45% lens shift let you position the image without moving the projector, and auto keystone, focus and screen alignment handle the rest.
What is in the box?
The projector, a backlight Bluetooth remote, two AAA batteries, a power plug, a manual and a warranty card. No screen or stand is included.
Why do some people see a rainbow effect?
Single-chip laser projectors can show color fringing on moving high-contrast edges, and glasses wearers notice it more. It varies by person and content, so buy from a store with a clear return policy.
When is it cheapest?
Projector prices typically dip during major sales events and when a successor launches. Track its price history and buy when the current price sits near the low end of its recent range.
