Is the Zonli CocoShield Tatami Mat good for side sleepers?

It is a firm mat with little give, so side sleepers often feel pressure at the hip and shoulder. Back and stomach sleepers, or anyone used to floor sleeping, tend to adapt better.

How firm is it compared with a futon?

It is firmer than a typical cotton or foam futon and closer to a traditional tatami surface. Expect a flat, rigid feel rather than a cushioned one.

Does it need a frame or base?

No. It is designed to lie directly on the floor and folds for storage. A rug or low platform underneath helps protect it and adds a little softness.

What are the dimensions and weight capacity?

It measures 80 inches long by 60 inches wide, a queen footprint, and is built for adult use. The natural fiber core is dense, so it supports normal adult weights without a frame.

How do I deal with the smell when it is new?

Air it out flat in a ventilated room for a few days before first use. The jute and coconut fiber odor fades with time and does not indicate a defect.

When is the best time to buy it?

Watch the price history for dips around major sales events and seasonal bedding promotions. Compare current store prices before buying, since the mat is sold at several retailers.

Our take on the Zonli CocoShield Tatami Mat Light

The Zonli CocoShield Tatami Mat is a firm 80 by 60 inch (queen) floor mat built on jute and coconut shell fiber, with a moisture-resistant, breathable surface aimed at people who sleep or lounge on the floor. It folds for storage, so it works as a guest bed or a roll-out lounging surface without a frame. The natural fiber core is dense and firm rather than cushioned, so it suits back sleepers and floor-sleeping habits more than anyone wanting a soft mattress feel.
