Questions and answers
- Which set is better for adult coloring books?
- Both work. The MIKOUJOS set includes a coloring book and a sketch book, so it is the cheaper all-in-one start. Castle pencils add a watercolor effect if you want to blend with a wet brush.
- Are the Castle pencils watercolor pencils?
- Yes. Castle lists a watercolor effect, so the color can be spread with water. MIKOUJOS does not state a watercolor effect for its oil-based leads.
- Which set is cheaper?
- MIKOUJOS. Its low has been $21.82 versus $30.00 for Castle, and its high of $34.99 is also below Castle's $39.99.
- Do the pencils come pre-sharpened?
- Castle lists pre-ground, 0.7 mm points, so they are ready to use. MIKOUJOS includes a metal sharpener in the case, which suggests you may need to sharpen before first use.
- Which is better for travel?
- Castle's display tin holds the pencils in place and is compact. MIKOUJOS packs everything in a waterproof canvas case, which also carries the books and sharpener.
- Is the Castle set worth the extra money?
- Only if you want the watercolor effect and the tin. Otherwise the MIKOUJOS set gives you the same 72 soft-core pencils plus books and a sharpener for less.
