Which is better for seeing readings without a phone?

The WS-2000. Its color TFT console shows temperature, wind, rain, UV and forecast at a glance. The Tempest has no display and relies on its app.

Is the Tempest worth the extra?

It is not extra. At $296.65 at Best Buy as of November 7, 2026, it is about $3 less than the WS-2000 at $299.99 at Walmart. It wins on update speed and accuracy, but you give up the console.

Which is more accurate?

The Tempest lists ±0.5 °C temperature accuracy against ±1 °C for the WS-2000, and updates every 3 seconds instead of 16. The WS-2000 adds UV and solar radiation readings the Tempest does not list.

Which works better with a smart home?

The Tempest. It integrates with Alexa, Siri, IFTTT and Rachio and has a free app with custom alerts. The WS-2000 focuses on its own AmbientWeather.net dashboard.

Do either need a subscription?

No. Tempest includes lifetime access to data, forecasts and API with no fees. The WS-2000 publishes to AmbientWeather.net without a subscription.
