Which has better range, the Midland GXT67 or the Motorola T800?

The Midland, in practice. Its 5 watts and 8 repeater channels reach farther than the T800's 2-watt FRS limit. The T800's 35-mile figure only applies with clear line of sight.

Do I need a license for either radio?

Yes for the Midland: GMRS operation requires an FCC license, and one license covers your family. The Motorola T800 is FRS and needs no license.

Which is better for hiking in rain?

The Midland. It is IP67 waterproof and dustproof; the T800 is only IPX4 weatherproof with no dust rating.

Which lasts longer on a charge?

The Midland: 16 hours from a 2500 mAh Li-ion pack versus 14 hours from the T800's 1300 mAh NiMH pack. The Midland also recharges over USB-C in about 4 hours.

Is the Midland worth the extra money?

If you need range, repeater access or all-weather durability, yes. For short-range family use, the license-free T800 covers the basics for less.
