They are rated the same at 4TB: 2,400 TBW and a 5-year warranty. Real lifespan depends on how much you write, not on the brand.

Is the SN850X worth the price?

At $799.99 at Newegg as of November 7, 2026, it is a fair price for a 4TB Gen4 drive with a 5-year warranty. It hit $741.00 on November 6, so waiting for a dip is reasonable.

The 990 PRO draws less power and generally runs cooler, which helps in laptops and tight cases. The SN850X benefits from a heatsink under sustained writes.

Do I notice the speed difference in games?

Barely. Both load games in seconds, and the gap between 7,300 and 7,450 MB/s is not visible in play. The SN850X's load prediction is the more noticeable gaming feature.

Which is better for video editing?

The 990 PRO, because its higher sustained write speed and lower power draw hold up better when writing large files for long stretches.
