Which is better for a bright living room?

Neither is the strong choice. Both are OLED panels with limited peak brightness and an anti-glare coating that reflects bright sources. A Mini LED set handles a sunlit room better.

Is the XR8B worth more than the K55XR80?

Only a small premium. The panel, refresh rate, weight and mount are the same. Pay extra for the newer generation and the higher owner rating, not for a picture upgrade.

Which has better sound?

Both use the screen as the speaker, Sony's Acoustic Surface Audio. Sound comes from the panel and follows the action. Expect similar performance from either.

Do both support 120 Hz gaming with VRR?

Yes. Both are 120 Hz OLEDs, and the XR8B lists VRR support. Pair either with a PS5 or Xbox Series X for 4K at 120 Hz.

Neither has a documented lifespan advantage. Both are OLED, so static logos and news tickers carry the same burn-in risk. The newer XR8B has the longer remaining support window.

How many HDMI ports do they have?

Four each. The K55XR80 places all four on the side, which makes wall mounting and cable swaps easier.
