Which is better for smart home automations?

The Tempest. It integrates with Alexa, Siri, IFTTT, Rachio and Home Assistant and pushes data to a free app. The AcuRite Iris has no app or integrations; its data stays on the display.

Is the Tempest worth the extra money?

If you want live 3-second readings, no battery swaps and app access, yes. If you mainly want a screen on the wall showing backyard conditions, the AcuRite does that for about $162 less.

Which one updates faster?

The Tempest, every 3 seconds versus every 18 to 36 seconds on the AcuRite. That matters most for wind speed and rain during storms.

The Tempest's solar-powered sensor avoids battery changes, but some owners report battery failures needing replacement. The AcuRite runs on 4 AA batteries with about a 2-year life and is rated to 99 mph winds.

Can I see readings without a phone?

Only on the AcuRite, which has a large color LCD. The Tempest has no display, so you check the app or a smart display.

Which has better range from the house?

The Tempest, at 1000+ ft versus 330 ft for the AcuRite. That gives more freedom in where you mount the sensor.
