About the HP OmniBook 5 16" 2K WUXGA Touchscreen Laptop Intel Ultra 5 225U 16GB 1TB SSD

The HP OmniBook 5 is a 16-inch mainstream laptop built around Intel's Core Ultra 5 225U, a 12-core chip that boosts to 4.8 GHz, paired with 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD. Its 1920 x 1200 IPS touchscreen is anti-glare and taller than a standard 16:9 panel, which suits documents and spreadsheets, though at 250 nits and 45% sRGB it is dim and dull for photo or video work. The best new price is $766.79 at Best Buy as of November 5, 2026, the only new listing tracked, so there is no recent price range to compare against. It is a sensible big-screen machine for everyday work, not a creator or gaming laptop.

Best forStudents and office workers who want a large touchscreenSpreadsheet and document-heavy multitaskingBuyers who want 1TB of storage without paying extraHome and family use where a dimmer screen is fine

  • 16-inch 1920 x 1200 touchscreen is taller than 16:9, good for documents
  • Anti-glare finish cuts reflections under indoor light

  • Only one new store listing, so price competition is thin

What reviewers say

Reception of the OmniBook 5 line is generally positive for value and everyday performance, with the large screen and storage capacity called out as strengths. Critics focus on the dim, low-color display and the plastic-feeling build typical of budget 16-inch laptops.

Pros
  • Strong everyday speed from the Core Ultra 5
  • Large 16-inch screen for the money
  • 1TB SSD and 16GB RAM out of the box
Cons
  • Display brightness and color coverage
  • Basic 60Hz panel
  • Chassis feels less premium than pricier HP lines

Questions and answers

Is the HP OmniBook 5 16 worth it at $766.79?
At $766.79 at Best Buy as of November 5, 2026, it is fair value for a 16-inch touch laptop with 16GB RAM and a 1TB SSD. If you need a bright, color-accurate screen, spend more on a different model.
Is the screen good enough for photo editing?
Only for casual use. At 250 nits and 45% sRGB, colors look washed out and the panel struggles in bright light, so it is a poor fit for serious photo or video work.
Can it handle gaming?
Lightly. Intel integrated graphics run older and indie titles at low settings, but modern 3D games will be unplayable or need heavy compromises.
How does it compare with the previous OmniBook generation?
The Core Ultra 5 225U is a newer 12-core chip, so expect better efficiency and everyday speed than older U-series models. The screen and chassis are largely the same class of hardware.
What ports and connections does it have?
It includes an HDMI port for an external monitor, alongside the usual USB ports and wireless connectivity. Check the full port list before buying if you need Thunderbolt or an SD card reader.
When is it likely to be cheapest?
Only one new listing is tracked, at $766.79 as of November 5, 2026, so there is no recent range to judge from. Laptop prices typically drop around Black Friday and back-to-school sales.
