Our take on the 7artisans 85mm f/1.8 AF Lens Sony E

The 7artisans 85mm f/1.8 AF is a budget autofocus portrait prime for Sony E-mount cameras. It pairs a bright f/1.8 aperture with an STM motor, an 11-blade rounded diaphragm and a 0.8 m minimum focus distance, in a compact 72 mm x 96 mm body. It is not weather sealed and has no optical stabilization. At $239.20 at Adorama as of November 4, 2026, it sits at the low end of the 85mm autofocus market, well under Sony's own 85mm options.

Questions and answers

Is the 7artisans 85mm f/1.8 worth it over the Sony 85mm f/1.8?
It costs far less and covers the same portrait focal length and aperture. The Sony adds weather sealing, faster and quieter focus and better resale, so pick it if you shoot in rain or need the most reliable autofocus.
Does it autofocus on Sony E-mount bodies?
Yes. It uses an STM motor and has an AF/MF switch on the barrel. It works on full-frame and APS-C E-mount cameras, where it behaves like a roughly 128mm lens.
Does it have image stabilization?
No. Stabilization comes from the camera body, so pair it with an IBIS-equipped Sony body for handheld low-light shots.
How close can it focus?
The minimum focus distance is 0.8 m with about 0.13x maximum magnification. That is fine for head-and-shoulders portraits but not for tight detail shots.
Is it weather sealed?
No. There is no weather sealing and no gasket at the lens mount, so protect it in rain and dust.
What is in the box?
The lens and a lens hood are included. The front and rear caps come with the lens; check the listing for a case.
