Is the GM II worth it over the original 16-35mm f/2.8 GM?

The II is about 20% lighter and shorter, adds a fourth XD motor and closer focus, and reduces focus breathing. If you shoot handheld or video, the upgrade is meaningful; if you mostly shoot stopped down on a tripod, the first version still delivers.

Does it work on APS-C Sony bodies?

Yes, it mounts on any Sony E-mount body. On APS-C it behaves like a 24-52.5mm equivalent, which makes it a normal zoom rather than a wide-angle.

No. The lens has no optical stabilization, so you rely on in-body stabilization in the camera. That matters most for handheld video and slow shutter speeds.

The lens and a petal lens hood are included. A soft case and front and rear caps are standard with Sony G Master lenses, but confirm the listing contents before ordering.

Wide zooms like this tend to dip during Black Friday and Sony's seasonal sales. The best new price was $1,989.95 at Walmart as of November 4, 2026; check the price history before buying.
