Our take on the Acer Nitro V16

The Acer Nitro V16 is a 16-inch gaming laptop with a 1920 x 1200 display, an octa-core CPU boosting to 5.1 GHz, and an NVIDIA GPU. It carries 16 GB of RAM and a 1 TB or 2 TB SSD, plus a backlit keyboard and a full port set including Ethernet and HDMI. At 5.5 lb it is a desktop-replacement gaming machine rather than a thin-and-light. It sits in Acer's value gaming line, so it competes on price per frame rather than premium build.

Questions and answers

Is the Acer Nitro V16 worth it?
For 1080p gaming on a budget, yes. You get an octa-core CPU, an NVIDIA GPU and 16 GB of RAM at a price below premium gaming laptops. If you need long battery life or a light machine, look elsewhere.
Is the touchscreen useful on a gaming laptop?
It is a nice extra for browsing and media, but few games use touch. Do not pay a premium for it if you only play with a mouse and keyboard.
Can I upgrade the RAM and storage?
The V16 is listed with 16, 32 or 64 GB RAM and 1 TB or 2 TB SSDs, so pick the config you need up front. Nitro models typically allow later RAM and SSD upgrades, but confirm the slot layout for the exact model.
How does it compare with the Nitro V15?
The V16 steps up to a 16-inch 1920 x 1200 screen, which is taller than the V15's 15.6-inch 1080p panel. Expect similar gaming performance for the same GPU tier, with the V16 slightly heavier.
What comes in the box?
The laptop and its power adapter. A mouse and headset are not included, so budget for those if you are starting fresh.
When is it cheapest?
Nitro laptops see the deepest discounts during back-to-school and Black Friday sales, and when a new Nitro generation launches. Watch the price history before buying.
