Our take on the American Flyer 5 Piece Pemberly Buckles Luggage Set

The American Flyer Pemberly Buckles 5-piece set is soft-sided polyester luggage with a buckle-style closure, in-line skate wheels and telescoping handles on the uprights. The large rolling upright measures 28 by 18 inches and the uprights expand by 2.5 inches for extra packing room. The set also includes a wheeled duffel and a small cosmetic satchel with a detachable shoulder strap. At $174.99 at Macy's as of November 3, 2026, it sits at the low end of what the eight stores listing it new charge.

Best forFamilies or couples checking several bags on one tripBudget shoppers who want a full set in one purchaseTravelers who like expandable soft-sided uprightsBuyers who want a matching cosmetic bag and duffel
Pros
  • Five pieces cover checked, carry-on and toiletry needs in one buy
  • Uprights expand 2.5 inches when a bag is overpacked
  • Soft-sided polyester flexes to fit tight overhead bins and car trunks
  • In-line skate wheels roll smoothly on smooth floors
  • Cosmetic satchel has exterior pockets and a detachable shoulder strap
Cons
  • Buckle closures are slower to open and close than zippers
  • No TSA-approved lock, so checked bags need a separate lock
  • Polyester and plastic handles feel basic next to hardshell sets
  • In-line skate wheels track poorly on carpet and rough pavement
  • Large upright at 28 inches is checked-only, not carry-on

Questions and answers

Is this set worth it at $174.99?
At $174.99 at Macy's as of November 3, 2026, it is the lowest new price among the eight stores listing it. That is fair for five soft-sided pieces, but expect basic hardware rather than premium durability.
Is the large upright carry-on size?
No. The large rolling upright is 28 by 18 inches, which is checked-bag size. Use the smaller upright or the wheeled duffel for the cabin.
Does it have a TSA-approved lock?
No. The set uses buckle closures and no TSA lock is included, so add your own TSA-approved lock for checked bags.
How much extra room do the expandable uprights add?
The uprights expand by 2.5 inches of depth. That helps on return trips but pushes the bag closer to airline weight and size limits.
What is in the box?
Five pieces: rolling uprights, a wheeled duffel and a cosmetic satchel with a detachable shoulder strap. Check the listing for the exact upright sizes in the set.
When is it cheapest?
Luggage sets usually drop during back-to-school and Black Friday sales. Compare the current $174.99 at Macy's against the other seven stores before buying.
Where is the American Flyer 5 Piece Pemberly Buckles Luggage Set cheapest?
At Macy's, for $174.99, 27% under what the other stores charge, as of our latest check.
What do buyers say about the American Flyer 5 Piece Pemberly Buckles Luggage Set?
Rated 3.5 out of 5 from 20 ratings.
Where can I buy the American Flyer 5 Piece Pemberly Buckles Luggage Set?
