Is the Ameristep Doghouse worth it at $87?

At $87.00 at Amazon as of November 5, 2026, it is a low-cost way to get a two-person hub blind. It suits fair-weather gun hunts; if you hunt in rain, budget for a roof or a more weatherproof blind.

Does the Doghouse keep rain out?

No. It is listed as not rain tight. The Durashell Plus shell sheds light moisture, but seams and the roof let water through in steady rain, so add a separate rain cap.

How many people fit in it?

It is rated for two people. The shooting width is 63 inches and the interior height is 66 inches, which is enough for two adults seated on stools.

How long does setup take?

The spring steel hubs pop out in a few minutes. Stake the corners and run the high-wind tie-downs, and it is ready; takedown is about as fast.

What comes in the box?

The blind, a carry bag, stakes and high-wind tie-downs. Stools and a floor are not included.

Ground blinds like this usually drop in late summer and early fall, ahead of firearm season. The current $87.00 at Amazon is already near the bottom of its recent range.

Our take on the Ameristep Doghouse Ground Blind

The Ameristep Doghouse is a two-person hub-style ground blind built for firearm hunting in brush. It sets up fast on a spring steel frame, measures 63 inches across the shooting width and 66 inches tall, and packs into a 22 x 21.6 x 3.4 inch carry bag at 12 lbs. The shell is Durashell Plus in Mossy Oak Break-Up Country with shoot-through mesh porthole covers. It is not rain tight, so plan on a separate roof or dry ground. At $87.00 at Amazon as of November 5, 2026, it sits at the low end of its recent range across the 7 stores that list it new.
