Is 1.1 cu ft enough for a freezer?

It holds roughly 30 to 40 pounds of frozen food, about a few grocery bags. It suits ice, frozen meals and overflow, not a household's main frozen stock.

Does it need manual defrosting?

Yes. This is a manual-defrost upright, so ice builds up on the walls and you should defrost it every few months or when frost gets thick.

Can it sit in a garage or unheated room?

Only if the room stays within the unit's rated ambient range, typically around 50 to 90°F. Below that, the compressor may not run and food can thaw.

Small compressors like this usually run around 40 dB, close to a quiet refrigerator. Expect a soft hum and occasional cycling, noticeable in a bedroom.

What are its dimensions and clearance needs?

It measures 17.5 inches wide, 18.5 inches deep and 19.6 inches tall. Leave a few inches around the back and sides for airflow.

Small freezers tend to dip during back-to-school and Black Friday sales. Check the price history on this page before buying.

Our take on the Antarctic Star 1.1 Cu.ft Upright Freezer

The Antarctic Star 1.1 Cu.ft Upright Freezer is a compact freestanding freezer with adjustable temperature control and a black metal finish. At roughly 17.5 inches wide and 19.6 inches tall, it fits under counters and in tight corners where a full-size freezer won't go. It is a small second-freezer or dorm/office unit rather than a primary freezer. No current price was provided for this page, so check the live comparison for the latest quote.
