Our take on the Aoxun Metal Carport, Heavy Duty Carport Canopy with Galvanized Steel Roof & Frame

The Aoxun Metal Carport is a freestanding shelter about 20 feet long, 12 feet wide and 8.8 feet tall at the peak, built around a galvanized steel frame with a galvanized steel roof panel instead of fabric. That steel roof is the main draw: it sheds snow and rain and won't flap, tear or fade like a tarp canopy. It is a large, heavy structure meant to be anchored to a concrete slab or footing, so plan for a crew and a permit check before ordering. No current price was supplied, so compare quotes across stores before committing.

Pros
  • Galvanized steel roof and frame resist rust and weather
  • Rigid roof won't sag, flap or tear like fabric
  • About 20 x 12 ft footprint fits most cars and trucks
  • Peak height near 8.8 ft leaves room to walk under
  • No fabric to replace every few seasons
Cons
  • Heavy panels and frame need two or more people to assemble
  • Must be anchored; wind can lift an unsecured steel carport
  • Steel roof can be loud in heavy rain or hail
  • Large footprint may need a permit or HOA approval
  • No walls, so wind-driven rain still reaches the vehicle

Questions and answers

Is a steel carport better than a fabric canopy?
For permanent use, yes. A galvanized steel roof won't tear, sag or fade and handles snow load better than a tarp. Fabric canopies are cheaper and easier to move but usually need a new cover every few years.
How big is the Aoxun carport?
It measures about 241.7 inches long, 144.2 inches wide and 105.5 inches tall, roughly 20 by 12 feet with an 8.8-foot peak. That fits a full-size pickup or most SUVs with room to open doors.
Does it need to be anchored to concrete?
It should be anchored to something solid, such as a concrete slab or ground anchors, because a steel roof catches wind. An unsecured carport can lift in a storm.
How many people does assembly take?
Plan on at least two, and more is better for lifting the roof panels. The frame and steel sheets are heavy, and assembly typically takes most of a day.
Do I need a permit for it?
Often yes, depending on your city and the size of the structure. Check local rules and HOA covenants before ordering, since a 20 x 12 ft structure may count as a permanent accessory building.
When is the best time to buy?
Carports tend to be discounted in late fall and winter, outside peak spring and summer demand. Compare prices across stores and watch for freight-included deals, since shipping on a unit this size is significant.
