Is the iPad 7th Generation still worth buying?

For basic streaming, browsing and schoolwork at a low price, yes. If you need speed for games, drawing or multitasking, a newer iPad or iPad Air is a better spend.

How does it compare with the iPad 6th Generation?

The 7th generation has a larger 10.2-inch screen, a Smart Connector for keyboards and support for the first-generation Apple Pencil. The chip is the same A10 Fusion, so performance is similar.

Does it work with the Apple Pencil?

Yes, it works with the first-generation Apple Pencil, which charges by plugging into the Lightning port. The second-generation Pencil does not fit.

How long does the battery last?

Apple rates it at about 10 hours of web browsing or video. Expect less with heavy gaming or bright screens.

The iPad, a Lightning cable and a USB power adapter. The Apple Pencil and keyboard are sold separately.

Prices on this older model tend to drop during back-to-school and Black Friday sales, and when retailers clear stock. Check the price history before buying.

Our take on the Apple iPad WiFi 128GB 7th Generation

The iPad 7th Generation is Apple's 2019 entry-level tablet, with a 10.2-inch 2160x1620 display, the A10 Fusion chip, 128GB of storage and Wi-Fi only. It runs iPadOS and works with the first-generation Apple Pencil and the Smart Keyboard, which the cheaper 9.7-inch models before it did not. It is a basic tablet by current standards: fine for streaming, browsing, reading and light schoolwork, slow for heavy multitasking or newer games. The 128GB version sits above the 32GB base model in price, so compare its latest best price against the 32GB and against newer iPads before buying.
