Our take on the Astercook 16-Piece Kitchen Knife Set with Dual Built-in Sharpener

The Astercook 16-Piece Kitchen Knife Set is a full block set built around German stainless steel blades and one-piece steel handles with no rivets or seams. Its standout feature is a dual built-in sharpener in the wooden block, so straight-edge knives can be honed without a separate tool. The set covers chef, slicing, bread, Santoku, utility and paring knives, six steak knives and kitchen shears. It is a budget-priced block set aimed at equipping a whole kitchen at once rather than at buyers chasing premium forged blades.

Questions and answers

Is the Astercook 16-piece knife set worth it?
For a budget block that outfits a whole kitchen, yes. It gives you 12 blades, six steak knives, shears and a sharpener for far less than forged premium sets. If you cook daily and want long edge retention, spend more on a smaller set of better knives.
How does the built-in sharpener work?
The block has two sharpening slots for straight-edge knives. You pull the blade through a few times to realign the edge. It does not sharpen serrated bread or steak knives, and it is a honing aid rather than a full regrind.
Are these knives dishwasher safe?
The set is listed as dishwasher safe, but hand washing keeps edges sharper longer. Heat and detergent in a dishwasher dull blades and can spot the steel handles. Dry them promptly if you do use the machine.
What's in the box?
You get an 8-inch chef knife, 8-inch slicing knife, 8-inch bread knife, 7-inch Santoku, 5-inch utility knife, 3.5-inch paring knife, six steak knives, kitchen shears and the wooden block with built-in sharpeners.
Are the handles full tang?
Yes. The blades run through one-piece stainless steel handles with no rivets or seams, so there are no crevices where food collects. The trade-off is that wet steel handles can feel slick.
When is it cheapest?
Block sets like this usually drop around Black Friday, holiday sales and wedding-season promotions. Check the price history before buying to see whether the current price is near its low.
