Is the Asus Chromebook Plus CX34 worth it?

Yes if your work lives in a browser: docs, email, video calls and streaming. It is a poor fit if you need Windows or Mac apps, heavy photo or video editing, or more than 8 GB of RAM.

Can I upgrade the RAM or storage?

No. The 8 GB of RAM is soldered to the board, so buy with that limit in mind. The 128 GB SSD is technically replaceable, but ChromeOS recovery makes swapping it awkward for most buyers.

How does it compare with the older CX34?

This 2025 model keeps the 14-inch 1080p screen and plastic body but moves to a newer six-core Intel chip. The practical gains are in multitasking and battery, not in build quality.

Does it run Windows apps like Office?

No native Windows apps. You can use Microsoft 365 on the web, and some Android apps from the Play Store, but full desktop Office and Adobe apps will not install.

The laptop and a USB-C power adapter. There is no stylus and no mouse included.

Chromebooks like this one see the deepest discounts during back-to-school season and Black Friday. Check the price history before buying outside those windows.

Our take on the Asus Chromebook Plus CX34 (2025)

The Asus Chromebook Plus CX34 is a 14-inch ChromeOS laptop with an Intel 6-core processor, 8 GB of RAM and a 128 GB SSD. It meets Google's Chromebook Plus spec, so it gets a 1080p webcam, a 1920 x 1080 screen and AI features like Magic Eraser in Google Photos. At 3.22 lb in a plastic body, it is a budget machine built for web work rather than heavy local apps. RAM is soldered at 8 GB and cannot be upgraded.
