Our take on the Bambu Lab X1 Carbon 3D Printer
The Bambu Lab X1 Carbon is an enclosed CoreXY 3D printer with a 256 x 256 x 256 mm build volume, a direct-drive all-metal hotend, and a hardened steel nozzle. It stands out for lidar-assisted auto bed leveling, a built-in camera, Wi-Fi with Bambu Studio, and a tool-head speed up to 500 mm/s. The enclosure lets it print ABS and other warp-prone filaments, not just PLA and PETG. It is a premium machine aimed at buyers who want fast, low-fuss printing rather than tinkering.
- Enclosed chamber handles ABS and PETG well
- Lidar and dual auto bed leveling cut manual calibration
- Hardened steel nozzle and all-metal hotend take abrasive and high-temp filaments
- Built-in camera and Wi-Fi allow remote monitoring
- CoreXY design supports high tool-head speeds
- High price compared with open-frame printers
- Build volume of 256 mm per side limits large prints
- Enclosed design and 14 kg weight make it bulky to move
- Proprietary ecosystem ties you to Bambu Studio and its parts

Questions and answers
- Is the X1 Carbon worth it over a cheaper open-frame printer?
- If you print ABS or want fast, low-maintenance results, the enclosure and auto leveling justify the price. For PLA-only hobby printing, a cheaper open-frame machine does the job.
- What is the build volume?
- 256 x 256 x 256 mm, so roughly a 25 cm cube. Large single-piece prints will need to be split.
- Can it print ABS and TPU?
- Yes. The enclosed chamber suits ABS, and the direct-drive extruder handles flexible TPU. The hardened steel nozzle also takes abrasive filaments.
- Does it work with slicers other than Bambu Studio?
- It is built around Bambu Studio and its 3MF workflow. Third-party slicer support is limited, so plan on using Bambu's software.
- What comes in the box?
- The printer with a 0.4 mm hardened steel nozzle installed, plus the usual setup accessories. Filament is not included.
- When is it cheapest?
- Bambu Lab discounts it around major sales events and when a newer model launches. Check the price history before buying.
- Where can I buy the Bambu Lab X1 Carbon 3D Printer?
- 2 stores we checked sell it, including Micro Center, Profound 3D Printers.
