Our take on the Baratza Encore ESP Coffee Grinder

The Encore ESP is Baratza's all-purpose electric burr grinder, built to handle espresso and filter coffee from one machine. It uses 40mm conical steel burrs and a 70W high-torque DC motor, with 40 settings split into a fine espresso range and a coarser brew range. It holds 230g of beans and comes with a 24g dosing cup. At $199.95 at Amazon as of November 4, 2026, it sits at the top of its recent price range rather than at a discount.

Questions and answers

Is the Encore ESP worth it over the standard Encore?
Yes if you brew espresso. The ESP adds a finer, more espresso-focused adjustment range and a dosing cup, which the standard Encore lacks. For drip and pour-over only, the standard Encore is cheaper and does the same job.
Can it really grind fine enough for espresso?
Yes. Baratza designed the ESP's burr geometry and setting range for espresso, and it works with pressurized and non-pressurized baskets. Very light roasts may need the finest settings and careful dialing in.
Does it have a timer?
No. It runs on a pulse button, so you stop grinding by releasing the button. Use the included dosing cup and a scale to control dose.
How does it compare with the Baratza Sette 30?
The Sette 30 grinds faster and is built more for espresso, but it costs more and is louder. The Encore ESP is cheaper, quieter and more versatile for filter coffee.
What comes in the box?
The grinder, a 230g bean hopper with lid, and a 24g dosing cup. Burrs are installed from the factory.
When is it cheapest?
Baratza grinders rarely get deep discounts. Watch for holiday sales and refurbished units from Baratza, which often sell for well under the new price. At $199.95 at Amazon as of November 4, 2026, it is near its usual ceiling.
Where is the Baratza Encore ESP Coffee Grinder cheapest?
At Amazon, for $199.95, as of our latest check.
Where can I buy the Baratza Encore ESP Coffee Grinder?
3 stores we checked sell it, including Clive Coffee, De Fer Coffee & Tea, Amazon.
