Is the Bauer X-LP good for a beginner?

Yes. It is a recreational skate with a forgiving 13-foot blade radius and soft liner, which suits new skaters learning balance and stride. It is not built for competitive contact play.

How does the X-LP compare to Bauer's higher models?

The X-LP uses a poly carb quarter, standard toe cap and TPR outsole, while higher Bauers step up to stiffer composites, better toe protection and more durable outsoles. The X-LP is the budget entry point.

What size should I buy?

Bauer skates generally run close to shoe size but should fit snug with toes just grazing the cap. Try them on if you can, since fit varies by foot shape.

Can the blade be replaced or sharpened?

Yes. The LS PRO II holder takes standard replacement blades, and the steel can be sharpened at any hockey shop. The 13-foot radius is a common profile.

Is $129.99 a good price?

That is the best new price among four stores as of November 7, 2026, and sits at the low end for a Bauer skate with a stiff quarter package. Entry-level Bauers rarely drop far below this.
