Is the Big Berkey worth it over a pitcher filter?

It costs far more upfront, but it filters 2.25 gallons at a time, targets 200+ contaminants including PFAS and lead, and replacement elements run about 2 cents per gallon. A pitcher is cheaper but slower and narrower in what it removes.

How fast does it filter?

About 3.5 gallons per hour with the two included elements, and up to 7 gallons per hour if you add two more. That is slower than a plumbed reverse-osmosis system.

Does it remove fluoride?

Not on its own. You need the separate PF-2 fluoride filters added to the elements. The standard elements cover PFAS, lead, chlorine, VOCs, pesticides and pharmaceuticals.

Upper and lower stainless chambers with lid, 2 Phoenix or 2 Black Berkey elements depending on the edition, a spigot, rubber gasket base and 2 blocking plugs, a primer kit, anti-airlock clip and red dye test.

How long do the filters last?

Berkey rates the elements for about 6,000 gallons, roughly 2 cents per gallon. Actual life depends on your water quality.

The best new price is $249.99 at eBay as of November 6, 2026, with 4 stores selling it new. Watch for bundle deals that include the PF-2 fluoride filters.
