Is the Evercade EXP-R worth it over the original EXP?

The EXP-R is lighter and cheaper, and keeps the same screen and TATE controls. The original EXP adds features like a wider set of built-in extras; if you mainly play cartridges, the EXP-R covers it at a lower price.

What games come in the box?

It ships with a Tomb Raider 1-3 cartridge, plus a USB-C charging cable. Other Evercade cartridges are sold separately.

How long does the battery last?

About 4-5 hours of gaming per charge. It charges over USB-C.

Can I play it on a TV?

Yes, over mini-HDMI, but output maxes out at 720p. There is no 4K support.

Does it need Wi-Fi or a memory card?

Wi-Fi is used for firmware updates and saving game states. The MicroSD slot is for firmware updates and saves, not for downloading games.

Our take on the Blaze Entertainment Evercade EXP-R

The Evercade EXP-R is Blaze Entertainment's cartridge-based retro handheld, a lighter revision of the EXP with a 4.3-inch 800x480 IPS screen and a dedicated TATE mode for vertical shooters. It plays Evercade cartridges, includes Tomb Raider 1-3 on a bundled cart, and adds Wi-Fi for firmware updates and game-state saves. Battery life runs about 4-5 hours, and it outputs up to 720p over mini-HDMI. At $119.99 at Amazon as of November 5, 2026, it sits at the low end of its recent range, with only two stores pricing it new.
