Is the Bose Smart Soundbar 900 worth it?

It is worth it if you want a single bar with real Atmos height effects, wide sound and built-in voice assistants. If deep bass matters, budget for the Bass Module 700, which pushes the total well above bars that include a subwoofer.

Do I need a subwoofer with the Soundbar 900?

No, the bar works on its own and handles dialogue and mid-bass well. For movie rumble and music low end, the optional Bose Bass Module 700 or 500 makes a clear difference.

How does it compare with the Bose Smart Soundbar 600?

The 600 is smaller and cheaper with fewer drivers and a narrower soundstage. The 900 adds more up-firing and side-firing drivers for wider sound and stronger Atmos effects.

Does it support Dolby Atmos and what connections does it have?

Yes, it is a 5.0.2 Dolby Atmos bar. It connects over HDMI eARC, optical and Wi-Fi, with Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, Chromecast and Spotify Connect for streaming.

Can I add rear speakers?

Yes. Bose's surround speakers pair wirelessly with the bar for a fuller 5.1-style setup, and the system can be grouped with other Bose smart speakers.

Bose soundbars tend to drop during Black Friday, Prime Day and end-of-year sales, and when a newer model launches. Watch the price history before buying at full price.

Our take on the Bose Smart Soundbar 900

The Bose Smart Soundbar 900 is a 5.0.2-channel soundbar with Dolby Atmos, using two upward-firing drivers plus Bose's phase-guide tweeters to spread sound around the room. It has no separate subwoofer in the box, so bass comes from the bar itself. Built-in Alexa and Google Assistant, AirPlay 2, Chromecast and Spotify Connect make it a strong streaming hub. It sits near the top of Bose's soundbar line, above the Smart Soundbar 600 and below setups that add a Bass Module 700.
