Our take on the Buffalo Outdoor Pistol Safe with Keypad Lock

The Buffalo Outdoor Pistol Safe is a small bolt-down steel box for one handgun, opened with a 3- to 8-digit electronic keypad or one of two backup keys. It measures about 9.9 by 9.9 by 13.75 inches with 0.57 cu. ft. of space and runs on four AA batteries. The steel is thin at 0.5 mm (26 gauge), and it is not fire rated. At $59.99 at Tractor Supply Company as of November 4, 2026, it sits at the low end of its recent price range, which suits a budget first safe rather than a serious security box.

Questions and answers

Is the Buffalo Outdoor pistol safe worth it?
At $59.99 at Tractor Supply Company as of November 4, 2026, it is a reasonable budget pick for keeping a pistol out of casual reach. It is not a serious theft deterrent because of the thin steel and lack of fire rating.
How secure is 26 gauge steel?
Not very. At 0.5 mm, the body can be pried or cut with common hand tools, so bolt it down and treat it as access control, not a vault.
What happens if the keypad battery dies?
It runs on four AA batteries, which are included. Two backup keys let you open it if the keypad fails or the battery runs down.
Will it fit under a bed or in a nightstand?
It is about 9.9 inches wide and tall and 13.75 inches deep, so it fits many nightstands and closets but is too bulky for most drawers.
What is in the box?
The safe, mounting hardware for bolt-down installation, two backup keys and four AA batteries.
When is it cheapest?
The current $59.99 at Tractor Supply Company as of November 4, 2026 is at the low end of its recent range, so waiting is unlikely to save much.
