Questions and answers

Is the Hornady Rapid Safe Keypad Vault worth it?
For quick-access handgun storage in a drawer, yes. It gives you keypad, RFID and key entry in a steel box for about $112. If you need fire protection or room for several guns, look at a larger safe.
How is it different from the Hornady Rapid Safe with RFID only?
This model adds a keypad, so you can open it with a code even if the RFID tag is lost or the reader fails. The backup key covers a dead battery.
Will a full-size pistol fit inside?
The interior is 10.6 x 7.8 x 3.3 inches. Most full-size pistols fit, but tall sights, lights or optics may not. Measure your gun before buying.
How does the RFID access work?
You hold the included RFID tag or sticker near the reader and the lid opens. It is the fastest option in the dark, but you have to keep the tag with you.
Can it be bolted down?
Yes. It has bolt-down holes and is meant to be fastened to a drawer, shelf or floor. Hornady sells a security cable separately for tethering.
When is it cheapest?
It has sold around $112 at Academy Sports + Outdoors as of November 4, 2026, near the low end of its recent range. Watch for holiday sales at sporting goods stores.
