Our take on the Redfield Drawer Handgun Vault

The Redfield Drawer Handgun Vault is a compact steel lockbox sized to slide into a nightstand or desk drawer. It uses a digital keypad lock with two locking bolts and holds one handgun in a 2.2-inch-tall interior. It is not fire rated, so it is a quick-access storage box rather than a full safe. At $47.99 at Academy Sports + Outdoors as of November 4, 2026, it sits at the low end of what drawer vaults cost.

Questions and answers

Is the Redfield Drawer Handgun Vault worth it?
For basic drawer storage at $47.99 at Academy Sports + Outdoors as of November 4, 2026, it is a cheap way to lock up one handgun. It is not fire rated and holds only one gun, so it is not a substitute for a full safe.
Will it fit in a nightstand drawer?
The interior is 11.55 inches wide, 8.5 inches deep and 2.2 inches tall, so the outside is a bit larger. Measure your drawer before buying, especially the height.
Does it have a key backup?
The lock is electric/digital with a keypad. Check the box contents for a backup key, since a dead battery can otherwise lock you out.
Is it fire rated?
No. Redfield lists no fire protection rating, so documents and valuables are better kept in a rated safe.
Will a full-size pistol with a light fit?
The 2.2-inch interior height is tight. Full-size pistols with weapon lights or optics likely will not fit; compact guns fit best.
When is it cheapest?
It is a single-store item at $47.99 at Academy Sports + Outdoors as of November 4, 2026. Watch for holiday sales, when lockboxes often drop a few dollars.
Where is the Redfield Drawer Handgun Vault cheapest?
At Academy Sports + Outdoors, for $47.99, as of our latest check.
What do buyers say about the Redfield Drawer Handgun Vault?
