Our take on the Callaway Elyte HL Irons

The Callaway Elyte HL is a high-launch iron set built for golfers who need more height and carry. Lofts are strong on paper (30° 7-iron, 43° pitching wedge) but the low center of gravity and lightweight shafts push the ball up and out. Steel shafts weigh 86 grams, graphite 50 grams, and the set is sold in right and left hand. At $849.99 at DICK'S Sporting Goods as of November 5, 2026, it sits at the low end of what this set has cost recently.

Best forMid- to high-handicap golfers who struggle to get the ball airbornePlayers with slower swing speeds who need more carryGolfers replacing older irons with worn-out groovesShoppers who want a full set from 6-iron through approach wedge
Pros
  • High launch and steeper descent angles help hold greens
  • Lightweight steel (86 g) and graphite (50 g) shafts suit moderate swing speeds
  • Tight dispersion is the headline accuracy claim
  • Available in both right and left hand
  • Full set runs 6-PW plus an approach wedge
Cons
  • Strong lofts (43° PW, 30° 7-iron) can create big distance gaps at the top of the set
  • The 4-iron at 20° is demanding for the players this set targets
  • Lightweight shafts may feel loose for fast swingers
  • Only two stores list it new, so price competition is thin

Questions and answers

Is the Elyte HL worth it for a high handicapper?
Yes, if your problem is low ball flight and lost carry. The high-launch design and lightweight shafts are aimed squarely at that player. Better ball strikers will likely prefer the standard Elyte.
How does the HL differ from the standard Elyte irons?
The HL is tuned for a higher launch and more carry, with lighter shafts and a lower center of gravity. The standard Elyte is built for a more penetrating, stronger flight.
What is included in the set?
The listed set runs 6-iron through pitching wedge plus an approach wedge. Check the specific listing, since some sets add a 5-iron or sand wedge.
Are the lofts too strong?
They are strong: 30° on the 7-iron and 43° on the pitching wedge. The high launch offsets that, but expect a gap between the approach wedge and a traditional sand wedge.
Is it available in left hand?
Yes, the set is offered in both right and left hand. Availability by shaft and flex varies, so confirm before ordering.
When is the best time to buy?
New iron releases typically push prior-model prices down in late winter and around major sales. At $849.99 as of November 5, 2026, it is already near the bottom of its recent range.
Where is the Callaway Elyte HL Irons cheapest?
At DICK'S Sporting Goods, for $849.99, as of our latest check.
